The story of HKC Expedition 01 began with celebrated Indian sailor Abhilash Tomy, who had just left the Navy and set his sights on the Golden Globe Race, a solo circumnavigation of the globe. On his advice, a Rustler 36 sailboat named Gregal was identified and purchased from another celebrated French sailor, Philippe Peche.
The boat was acquired and owned by NPC from November 2021 to April 2022. Abhilash went on to participate in GGR 2022 to 23, finishing an impressive second place. However, a force majeure situation led NPC to exit the project, with ownership changing hands to new owners prior to the race. Gregal was renamed Bayanat under its new ownership.
